This workshop will help prepare teachers to use CYBER.ORG's free curriculum to integrate both computer science and cybersecurity in core content areas in the 2022-23 school year. This course is designed for upper elementary and secondary teachers to prepare students to explore cybersecurity awareness, coding, and computational thinking.
This highly interactive workshop will allow you to collaborate with your peers as you learn about the following:
Coding: Teachers will learn how to teach problem solving through coding using the BBC micro:bit and free Microsoft MakeCode online simulator.
Computational Thinking: Teachers will explore the four elements of computational thinking (pattern recognition, decomposition, abstraction, and algorithm design) and learn how to apply them within core content areas such as ELA, science, and math.
Cybersecurity Awareness: Teachers will learn age-appropriate concepts and teaching strategies around privacy, communication, cybersecurity career awareness, and digital citizenship.
The institute will showcase hands-on activities and projects from CYBER.ORG's Coding Fundamentals, Science+, Cybersecurity Basics, and Computational Thinking courses.
