CompTIA A+ Updates

WYSIWYG

NICERC is proud to unveil our brand new CompTia A+ curriculum designed to prepare students for the 1001 & 1002 tests.

So what even is CompTIA A+?

According to CompTIA.org, it is the “preferred qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles.” It consists of two core tests (220-1001 and 220-1002) that covers hardware, software, troubleshooting, mobile devices, multiple platforms and more. Microsoft, HP, Dell, and many more companies value this certification and want their employees to have it. These exams cost $219 per exam, but students with the certification can earn $45,000 right out of high school.

Why use NICERC’s curriculum?

Our approach references quality, test-prep books alongside project-based lessons and guided questions for the students, allowing them to develop a greater understanding of the subject matter and better prepare them for both the exam and its real-world applications. CompTIA A+ is a full year course where students will be prepared to take the 1001 and 1002 exams at the end of year. All the lessons are aligned to objectives the test will cover, i.e. Mobile Devices, Networking, Hardware and Network Troubleshooting, etc.). There are both teacher and student lessons available and it’s all free to access and download for teachers in the United States.

Why should I implement the course in my school?

In Louisiana, schools earn bonus points for school performance scores for every student that obtains the certification. In Ohio, schools earn a 6 point value for industry recognized credentials. In Texas, schools earn points towards their accountability ratings. And in Colorado, schools get $1,000 for every student that obtains the certification. Whatever state you’re in probably has incentives for students completing their certification, it just takes a little bit of research.

What do I need to get it going?

  • Old computers and laptops, the more the better. These don’t have to be working as they’ll either be disassembled as part of the lessons or parted out to create another machine.
  • A working computer with admin rights, it’s even better if it’s one they build.

A CompTIA A+ certification can be enough to jump-start a career in IT all by itself and the field of computer repair isn’t going anywhere. By continuing education and gaining experience in the field, CompTIA A+ certification holders can look forward to earning over $100,000 a year in most markets across the US. It’s a great, interactive, hands-on curriculum with direct real-world applications and career connection. Try it out in your class and let us know what you think. We’d even love to schedule some professional development around the topic with your school or district.
